Despite previous thinking its not looking like Cranbrook will an “eco town”. According to the Express and Echo:
What is certain is that the new town of Cranbrook, to be built near Exeter, will not be an eco town, because it was planned before the tougher new environmental guidelines were introduced, and will probably be on too small a scale to fit the criteria.
Bearing the above in mind, the Government do consider Cranbrook as a eco town prototype.

There has been a whole lot of news recently surrounding the Cranbrook development. The most important being that the Highways agency has withdrawn a condition that was restricting the size of the town until local Motorway improvements have been made.
The leader of the East Devon district has said in reference to this;
“The district council has been working with both organisations and the South West Regional Development Agency for a number of years and this is a watershed moment for all of us. I have been lobbying for 10 years for this agreement since I spoke to Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott on the occasion of his opening the new A30.
“We are one significant step closer to making a start on developments at the west end of East Devon, including Cranbrook, the inter modal freight depot, Skypark and the University of Exeter Science Park”.
Other news includes reports on worries of lack of space at the new Cranbrook School campus, the increase need of construction workers in the Exeter area, and the further requirement for housing in Devon.
